MALDIVES : non-Muslims to LOSE citizenship

The special majlis (constitutional assembly) have passed an amendment stating "none, except Muslims can be Maldivian citizens."

From the 83 members (of the total 112) present at the time of vote; 78 members voted in favor, 2 members voted to remain neutral, but none of the members voted against this amendment.

A prominent lawyer and one of the members who voted to be neutral , Addu member Husnussuood says that he feared that a number of Maldivians may lose their right to be citizens of Maldives or even worse; become stateless.

Although the current constitution does not specifically mention this, any person found 'guilty' of following or preaching , or simply reading texts of other religions are punished till he or she returns to Islam. Religious thoughts that contradicts the state's version of Islam are also not tolerated and a person can even be punished for carrying a Buddha or wearing a cross.

The Malaysian Professor Mohamed Hashim Kamali , currently in Maldives to advise the special majlis' constitutional drafting committee have said that the drafting committee were against allowing other religions to be practiced in the country. He also said that the new draft constitution is 100% islamic.

“In my opinion it is not necessary to include the phrase ‘Islamic Shariah’ in every constitutional amendment. That is because the constitution says that Islam should be the (official) religion of the Maldives,” Professor Kamali said.

“Despite my recommendations, it is up to the drafting committee to decide what to include in the draft. The recommendations include how Islam deals with other religions and the problems that could arise in Maldives if other religions were allowed to be practiced” he said.

“Many Quranic verses say so. It recognizes Christianity and other religions. To close the door to them is a disservice to….Islam.” said Kamali. He also warned that Islam does not allow followers to renounce the faith but the 64,000 expatriates living in the Maldives, should be able to open schools for their children and practice their faith openly,” he urged. But the drafting committee and all the political parties are against freedom of religion even for the foreigners.

RIYADH, 4 October 2007 — Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission (HRC) will urge its counterparts in the European Union to ask their governments not to link terrorism to Islam and also to issue regulations to protect Muslims from prejudice and discrimination because of their faith.

According to a source at HRC, the government-funded rights body will also address various human rights issues in Europe: when Muslims are unjustly interrogated, treated with disrespect, physically or mentally abused, or not allowed to practice their faith freely such as Muslim girls being prevented from wearing the hijab (head cover) in some schools.

The points are expected to be addressed during HRC’s official participation in the Second Arab-European Dialogue on Human Rights and Terrorism, which will take place in Copenhagen on Oct.21-23. “The dialogue is significant because it is being held in Denmark, where the controversy started over the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) cartoons,” the source told Arab News.

From the International Religious Freedom Report of 2007, Saudi Arabia section, here's one excerpt: In accordance with the country's official interpretation of Islam, it is considered acceptable to discriminate against religions held to be polytheistic. Christians and Jews, who are classified as "People of the Book," are also discriminated against, but to a lesser extent.

This discrimination is manifested, for example, in calculating accidental death or injury compensation: in Saudi's Shari'a court, a Jewish or Christian male plaintiff is only entitled to receive 50 percent of the compensation a Muslim male would receive, and all others (including Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs) are only entitled to receive 1/16 the amount a male Muslim would receive.

Furthermore, judges may discount the testimony of nonpracticing Muslims or individuals who do not adhere to the official interpretation of Islam. For example, testimony by Shi'a can be ignored in courts of law or is deemed to have less weight than testimony by Sunnis, despite official government statements that judges do not discriminate based on religion when hearing testimonies. Moreover, a woman's testimony is worth only half that of a man's, and a non-Muslim's testimony is worth less than that of a Muslim's.

Thus, Saudi Arabia's combined score on civil liberties and political rights is 13. The worst possible Freedom House score a nation can get is 14. The best possible score a nation can get is 2. Saudi Arabia is a vicious tyranny, though some of the people there may want change.

This Fatawa describes how an Egyptian man turned apostate and the subsequent punishment prescribed for him by the Al-Azhr Fatawa council. The following translation is a rough guide:
In the Name of Allah the Most Beneficient the Most Merciful.
Al-Azhr Council of Fatawa.
This question was presented by Mr. Ahmed Darwish and brought forward by [name obscured] who is of German nationality.
A man whose religion was Islam and his nationality is Egyptian married a German Christian and the couple agreed that the husband would join the Christian faith and doctrine.
1) What is the Islamic ruling in relation to this man? What are the punishments prescribed for this act?
2) Are his children considered Muslim or Christian?

The Answer:
All praise is to Allah, the Lord of the Universe and salutations on the leader of the righteous, our master Muhammed, his family and all of his companions.
Thereafter:
This man has committed apostasy; he must be given a chance to repent and if he does not then he must be killed according to Shariah.
As far as his children are concerned, as long as they are children they are considered Muslim, but after they reach the age of puberty, then if they remain with Islam they are Muslim, but if they leave Islam and they do not repent they must be killed and Allah knows best.

I didn't stick to only seeing the few good parts of Pristina, I went to other parts of Kosovo where Christians are forced to live in military-like compound ghettos, with the terror and fear of death if they ever set foot outside of their enclaves without protection. I saw a rogue and wild west region with very little self built infrastructure, and vast amounts of foreign money flowing in from Saudi Arabia and other nations hell bent on exporting their extremist ideals.

From Pristina I headed for Gracanica, a small enclave of Christian Serbs who's ancestors have been living in Kosovo for thousands of years. Gracanica Monastery has been the site of Christian churches since the 6th century, yet when I arrived I was struck by the towering concrete walls adorned with coiled barbed wire and machine gun nests, all required now for the protection of the nuns and bishops who live there. The outside was also spotted with vehicle blockers reminiscent of Normandy Beach, with KFOR guards and vehicles patrolling to protect the Christians from Islamist attacks.



I visited with the nuns in the monastery, who told me their stories, how much they lived in fear of being murdered by radical Muslims. My heart sank as I saw that even though their families had been there for countless years, they knew that their situation would never get better, and that sometime in their lives they would either be murdered or forced to leave. My mind shot back to Dearborn, Michigan, and I found myself wondering if Christians there would one day be forced to live like this.

Dearborn today is estimated at around 30% Muslim, and they are emboldened enough to hold Hezbollah rallies last year which attracted an estimated 10,000 people. What will happen when they are over 50%? The ludicrousness astounds me how any of our politicians can believe that simply because the Muslims have the majority in Kosovo, Serbia, it entitles them to have their own Islamic country, yet if you ask any of those same politicians if they believe the same would apply for Dearborn, Michigan in a few years, they never seem to have a solid answer.

I saw the Saudi flag on more than one occasion while there, and even saw many of the U.N. workers driving around wearing full hijab Islamic head coverings, quite comforting considering the U.N. is suppose to protect the Christians who live there if they are attacked. But in 2003 we saw an uprising against the Christians where many churches were destroyed and Christians killed, and the U.N. troops all ran away.

The entire region is an example of the catalyst that all Islamists are trying to create here in America. An all out war where in the end the Muslims have the majority, and the non-Muslims live in fear and dhimmitude. What happened there is the end result, 50 to 100 years ahead of where America is today, that is unless we take action to prevent it from occurring here.

See the constant destruction and desecration of churches, cemeteries, monasteries and how 1000 years of Christian history is being systematically erased in the area (even well before and also after the Bosnian war in the 90-s).

THIS is why Kosovo-once Serbia’s Jerusalem, should never become independent : the minority Christians will be completely at the mercy of the majority Muslims, just like they are in Saudi, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Gaza, Jerusalem etc !

Nissar Hussein, a 39-year-old hospital nurse in Bradford, is one of a growing number of former Muslims in Britain who face not just being shunned by family and community, but attacked, kidnapped, and in some cases killed.

Yasmin, who was raised in the North of England, has been forced out of her town once, and is now trying to resist being chased out again. ... “My family completely disowned me. They thought I had committed the biggest sin — I was born a Muslim, and so I must die a Muslim. When my husband found out, he totally disowned my sons. One friend tried to strangle me when I told him I was converting,” she said. [...] the double standards of her attackers made her most angry. “They are such hypocrites — they want us to be tolerant of everything they want, but they are intolerant of everything about us.”

Although some are beaten “black and blue” for their faith, others suffer even more. The family of an 18-year-old girl whom Yasmin was helping found that she had been hiding a Bible in her room, and visiting church secretly. “I tried to do as much as possible to help her, but they took her to Pakistan ‘on holiday’. Three weeks later, she was drowned — they said that she went out in the middle of the night and slipped in the river, but she just wouldn ’t have done that,” said Yasmin.

Ruth, also of Pakistani origin, found out recently that she had only just escaped being murdered. When she told her family that she had converted, they kept her locked inside the family home all summer.

Noor, from the Midlands, was brought up a Muslim but converted to Christianity at 21. “Telling my father was the most difficult thing I have ever done. I thought he would kill me on the spot, but he just went into a state of shock,” she said. He ended up almost kidnapping her.

Husband was a Muslim, wife an Assyrian Christian. The couple married under Islamic Law because they apparently could not find a church willing to marry them because of their different backgrounds. The Justice Court of Revolution said that "when non-Muslims marry under Islamic law they are considered to have converted to Islam."

"They allegedly violated that principle because "in reality they are convinced and practising Christians," Barnabas Fund explained. In September 2005, "the couple were among a group of Christians who were arrested while meeting for worship in a home in a town north-west of Tehran," Barnabas Fund said.

In July this year the couple's case came to court where they apparently admitted they were Christians. "Because the law considered them Muslim, this led to the court's ruling that they were both apostates from Islam, and hence the brutal punishment."
